Day 1

Afternoon: Arrival in the province of Bologna and check-in at Palazzo di Varignana, a luxury spa resort restored from an ancient chateau-style villa dating back to the 1700s and immersed in the picturesque hills south-east of the city with a private wine and olive oil farming estate and ornamental gardens all around.

To follow: Free sightseeing tour through the olive groves and the Italian-style gardens.

06:30 pm: Guided wine&oil tasting with an English-speaking sommelier.

Free time: Outdoor swimming pool, golf area and gym available.

Dinner: Welcome dinner at their Pool restaurant (3 courses, typical menu, 1 glass of local wine included).

Night: Overnight at the resort (double room, superior cat.)

Day 2

Breakfast: Rich farm-to-table breakfast and then head on to a panoramic wine tour in the hills between Bologna and Imola.

10:00 am: Meet the guide directly at the first producer’s, a young and industrious family-run wine estate at about 45 min from Bologna, and learn about their peculiar product range, including Chardonnay, Pignoletto and Albana, the first Italian white wine to win the official DOCG recognition in 1987 (Top denomination of Origin).

11:30 am: Head-on to the second wine estate.

12:00 pm: At this incredibly competitive family-run company, long established in the area and known for combining a traditional and innovative method at the same time, you will get stunned at how noticeable the level of the Bologna hills wines can be: 3 individual and distinctive interpretations of Sangiovese di Romagna, revealed through a guided tour of the winery, will be paired to top quality, locally-produced gourmet foods such as mortadella, salame, caciotta (soft cheese) and/or pecorino, thus making an unforgettable tasting lunch!

02:30 pm: Head on to visit Dozza, a charming medieval village where art becomes urban landscape through the decoration of house walls, streets and squares: a real open-air museum with more than 100 works by several prestigious contemporary artists.

Visiting the Fortress of Dozza (on own), you will have the opportunity to have a last wine tasting in the ancient cellars that host Enoteca Regionale dell’Emilia Romagna (at your charge).

04:00 pm: End of activities and back to your hotel / head on to your next destination.

Cancellation Policy:

  • No fee up to 8 days before the starting day;
  • From 7 days to 3 days before the tour starting date: 50% penalty;
  • 48 hours’ notice: 70% penalty;
  • 24 hours’ notice: 100% penalty.

  • Program: the described program may undergo minor changes in timings and schedule;
  • Pick-ups: If you choose the car+driver option the price is calculated considering a pick-up from your hotel town or immediate surroundings (max 15 Km). Pick-ups from other locations can be purchased with a surcharge to be agreed upon by email request;
  • Our drivers are NOT driver-guides, since this kind of professional profile is forbidden by the Italian law.
  • It is not guaranteed to see the craftsmen at work at every production: being artisanal and not industrial products, the working cycle is not repeated every day at the same time (e.g. Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, wine making, Prosciutto di Parma, Culatello)
